2,000 minutes. That’s how long I’ve spent listening to strangers pour their hearts out in the Loqui Listening app. That is over 33 hours of whispered anxieties, tearful confessions, and bravely shared secrets from one stranger to another. My experience being a Listener has been absolutely amazing. It’s really nice being able to connect with other strangers and feel safe doing so with the anonymity built into in the application. I love that the app is designed to keep us anonymous. Being anonymous allows me to bring my authentic self to the conversation, whether I’m reaching out to a fellow listener to talk things out myself, vent or get something off of my chest that I don’t necessarily feel comfortable talking about to family or friends.
“It’s mind-blowing that I feel more comfortable talking to a stranger, because I get to be completely honest and not have to worry about how what I will say will affect someone’s judgement of me later down the line.”
Ashley shares, on the listener side, I’ve been very fortunate to connect with a good variety of people from the different places, with different lived experiences, who often open my eyes to a lot of different perspectives. It’s nice to be able to lend a virtual ear to someone in need, whether they are experiencing problems with loved ones, looking for ways to boost their self esteem after being chastised for who they truly are, help get someone through a toxic breakup, shoot the breeze about politics and the current state of the nation, talk about the excitement of an upcoming date, or just be available as a sounding board for someone who doesn’t have access to a therapist.

The work can be challenging, but in a really great way.
In a way, I get to help people through their problems and in doing so, it helps me put things in perspective so I can work on my own with a fresh perspective. I find this work (listening to strangers) incredibly rewarding, and it’s something I can be proud of at the end of the day. For those of you who have ever thought, “I wish there was someone to JUST LISTEN TO ME,” the Loqui Listening app is for you. 💯
As a new listener on the platform, I never anticipated the depth of connection and profound sense of reward that would come from offering my ears to those who need them most. There’s a unique intimacy that blossoms in the anonymity of Loqui. They share their deepest fears, their hidden struggles, the raw emotions they might hesitate to reveal to those in their everyday lives.
With no ties to each others social media, no shared connections to family, friends, or their workplaces, people feel safe to truly open up.
And I, a stranger with a listening heart, become a temporary confidante, a witness to their vulnerability and resilience. Each day, I log in, not knowing who I’ll connect with or what stories I’ll hear but I have an open mind and an open heart every conversation. Some days, it’s a few quick calls offering a moment of support. Other days, it’s a series of messages exchanged with someone grappling with a difficult decision. Regardless of the interaction, there’s a consistent thread of gratitude, a shared understanding that sometimes, all we need is someone to truly listen. These 2,000+ minutes (listening) have been a profound experience, a testament to the power of human connection and the simple act of offering a listening ear.

Ashley’s bio reads: “I’m someone who knows it’s okay not to be okay, and that’s why I’m here. No one said the human experience would be easy, and that’s why we’ve got to be here to support each other, and help one another grow. 🌹 I’ll be here to listen actively and objectively. If you need a sounding board, and someone just to “listen” without judgement — or if you need someone straight up who will “tell it like it is,” I’m your gal. Don’t be afraid. Saying “Hi” is the first step to healing here.”
I’m so grateful to be part of this platform and see it’s evolution. My mission is simple, just be present for someone because it can make a world of difference for someone in need. I can’t wait to see where we go from here. 🌱🌿🪴 “There is a destiny that makes us brothers: None goes his way alone: All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own.”
